Course itinerary
This unique painting course in the heart of Andalucia, Spain, aims to develop your drawing and painting skills whilst you develop your own personal interpretation of the beautiful Andalucian landscape.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced painter, the course will be tailored uniquely to you to help improve your techniques, learn new skills and increase your confidence through expert tuition and advice.
Your painting and drawing tutor is the resident professional artist, Anna Martin, who is extremely passionate and has a wealth of experience in art and the medium of painting. Having previously studied and worked in art and design in London, Madrid and New York, Anna returned to painting five years ago and has been working as a commercial artist ever since.
By combining your painting course with visits to markets, beaches, marinas, local towns and just simply relaxing, this inspiring painting holiday promises not just a creative experience but also a cultural one.
Suitability
- Suitable for all from budding artists to experienced painters
- Painting courses make great singles holidays and there is no single supplement on this course if you are travelling solo
- Those who do not wish to take part in the painting lessons are welcome if travelling with a painter, please email hello@golearnto.com for a quote for an accompanying non-painter
Painting Course Start Days
- All arrivals in Summer are on Saturday as the painting course starts on Sunday with the exception of June, when arrivals are on Monday
- The painting course will finish on the following Saturday
- In October and November, arrival dates are on Tuesday or Sunday
- This painting holiday has set arrival dates throughout the year
Typical Painting Holiday Itinerary
Please note this itinerary is an example only and may change slightly due to time of year and weather conditions:
Day 1
Saturday – Arrival day
- You will be collected from Malaga airport and taken to the charming village of Torrox where your course and accommodation will be based
- Enjoy a welcome lunch on the terrace of the host building
- After lunch, take time to settle in and stroll around the village
- In the evening you will meet the resident artist, Anna, who will lead a brief introduction on the objectives, materials and itinerary for the painting and drawing week
- Enjoy dinner at a local Spanish restaurant
Day 2
Sunday – Finca visit and afternoon painting class
- Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before meeting at nearby Finca la Paz, your host’s house, with your painting tutor, Anna
- NOTE: Breakfast is provided in a pack to your accommodation kitchen area each morning of tea/coffee/breads/fruits etc. for you to make your own breakfasts. It may be necessary to supplement the pack during the week
- You’ll all discuss your individual aims for the week so that Anna can tailor the course to suit the group
- Enjoy lunch at Finca la Paz
- Relax with a well deserved afternoon siesta before taking your first painting lesson in the village of Torrox
- In the evening you will enjoy dinner at an excellent local Spanish restaurant
Day 3
Monday – Street markets of Torrox & home made Andalucian dinner
- Enjoy breakfast at your leisure before continuing with your painting course in the village
- On Monday mornings there is a colourful street market in Torrox that will give you the opportunity to capture the stalls, produce and people
- Enjoy a picnic lunch in the village and take a short afternoon siesta to rejuvenate yourself for the afternoon’s activities
- Late afternoon you will be driven to Maria’s Cortijo where you can relax around the swimming pool or paint the stunning views from this hilltop location, so remember to take your sketchpad and camera
- Maria and her friends will prepare you a traditional homemade Andalucian evening meal eaten al fresco (weather permitting)
Day 4
Tuesday – Visit the pretty seaside town of Caleta de Velex
- After breakfast you will visit the pretty seaside town of La Caleta de Velez where you can enjoy painting and sketching the beautiful beaches, impressive marina, working fishermen’s yard, vibrant fish market and much more
- You will enjoy a picnic lunch before returning to Torrox
- This afternoon is free to relax or to work on your painting and drawing skills
- In the evening you are invited to Finca la Paz where your host will serve you a vegetarian banquet
Day 5
Wednesday – Burriana beach free time
- Today is a free day but transport is provided to Burriana Beach where you can choose to continue painting or simply relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings
- In the evening you are again free to do as you please but transport can be provided to Torrox Costa where you can sample one of the many restaurants and walk along the bustling promenade
Day 6
Thursday – Mountain village visit
- Enjoy breakfast before heading to the gorgeous mountain village of Acebuchal nestled in a charming valley where you will have the opportunity to paint the mountainous location, village houses and cobbled streets
- Lunch will be provided at Acebuchal’s local bar restaurant where they serve delicious home-cooking including local meat and game dishes (vegetarian options are available)
- After lunch you will return to Torrox and have time to relax before an evening tapas dinner at a local restaurant in the main square
Day 7
Friday – Spanish mules and other pets
- After breakfast you will meet at Finca la Paz where you will have more painting tuition with Anna before having the option to paint still life or you may even decide to paint the resident mule or any of the other pets at the Finca
- Throughout the day you will have the chance to finish your work, ask questions, receive feedback and learn new techniques
- Lunch will be provided at Finca la Paz
- For your final evening the group will enjoy a farewell meal together in a village restaurant to reflect on your new found painting skills over a glass of good Spanish wine and delicious meal
Day 8
Saturday – Departure day
- After breakfast you are kindly asked to check-out of your room ready for departure taking home with you new, creative painting skills and an insight into Andalucían life that will stay with you long after the holiday is over
What Will I Learn On This Painting And Drawing Course?
- At the start of your course the group will meet with Anna and you can discuss your own personal goals and aims for the course
- If you have some painting experience Anna, will help you to develop your existing painting and drawing skills as well as giving you useful tips to help you develop new skills and techniques
- If you are a complete beginner Anna will help you with the basics and will set you off on a path to developing your own artists personality
- Anna will be on hand to advise you on light, space, lines, balance, weight, saturation, tone, shine and colour
- You’ll also learn how to eliminate creative blocks and draw out your unique painting style
Accommodation and Meals
- You will stay in one of the 8 charming Moorish houses in the beautiful village of Torrox where you will
- The houses have between 1-3 bedrooms and you’ll have your own private bedroom and private bathroom
- Each house has a small shared lounge, kitchen and terrace with delightful views over the village and mountains
- Each house is well equipped with all mod cons and you’ll have a washing machine, fridge, iron, ironing board and hairdryers
- Please note that all transport is included to and from your hosts house, any painting locations so you don’t have to worry about driving or taxis during your stay
- All main meals are included except on your free day
- NOTE: Breakfast is provided in a pack to your accommodation kitchen area each morning of tea/coffee/breads/fruits etc. for you to make your own breakfasts - it may be necessary to supplement the pack during the week
